Using Facebook in the library

We have been using Facebook in the library for a while now. A lot of my friends in different professions cannot believe that we use it at work. Indeed, where my husband works it is totally banned, and I can see why, but certainly in the library world it seems to be a useful tool for communicating with readers. If Facebook is where people look, then that is where we need to have a presence.

Apart from being able to put up announcements about what is going on in the library, we have sometimes been able to contact readers who have left Oxford - sometimes they respond! We can also on occasions find out useful information about the reader.

We get some feedback from the readers which suggests that Facebook is a handy tool for making them aware of our existence and our activities.
